Support the ICLA

Donations to ICLA are encouraged. The money will be used to help ICLA members in various ways. Funds from the general ICLA fund will be used to subsidize the expenses of students or scholars needing funding for travel to ICLA meetings. In addition, we have a Sign Language Fund to make possible Sign Language Interpreting at the ICLC meetings. The conference in Logrono (2003) and the conference in Seoul (2005) had sign language interpreters supported by this fund, established after the Santa Barbara meeting.

We would like to suggest that those who receive royalties from cognitive publications consider donating them to ICLA. In many cases a royalty that would be split in small amounts among contributors to an edited volume could help make a difference to a student or scholar in a currency-challenged country who might not otherwise be able to attend.

Donations are tax deductible in many countries. We now can take funds in American dollars as well as other currencies. Contact Suzanne Kemmer (kemmer AT ruf.rice.edu) or Ad Foolen (a.foolen AT let.ru.nl) to donate and help support attendance at ICLC meetings for the people who need it most. Our first donors were Gary Palmer and Debra Occhi, who donated royalties from their edited volume Languages of Sentiment (John Benjamins 1999) to the ICLA's US dollar fund.

Anke Beck, on behalf of Mouton de Gruyter, kindly donated the cash proceeds from the "Silent Auction" of Mouton display books at ICLC 9 to the Sign Language Fund of the ICLA.

Vyv Evans announced that the ICLA will receive the royalties from the forthcoming Cognitive Linguistics Reader, edited by himself, Ben Bergen and Joerg Zinken. The reader was published by Equinox in 2007.
